NCAAB Power Rankings Going Into 2009 March Madness
By: Richard Bleuze
NCAAB power rankings as of 2/23/2009
1. Pittsburgh Panthers 13-7-1 ATS - Pitt didn’t cover against UCONN, but they’re still tops because nobody has dominated the Huskies like the way the Panthers did last week.
2. Memphis Tigers 17-9 ATS - The Tigers didn’t cover against UTEP when they beat the Miners by only 7 points, but they should steamroll over their next three opponents and bring their record against the spread to 20 and 9.
3. Louisville Cardinals 16-10 ATS - If they can cover against Georgetown, and they should, the Cardinals would have covered four straight games in a row against Big East opponents.
4. Villanova Wildcats 14-9 ATS - Villanova shows up as the third team in the top five from the Big East. The Wildcats covered on the road against Syracuse on 2/22/2009 and are no doubt making their way towards the top ten in the polls.
5. Arizona State Sun Devils 14-8 ATS - The Sun Devils are the top team in the Pac-10. A road trip against Washington and Washington State will go a long way in determining their seeding in the Big Dance.
6. Kansas Jayhawks 15-5 ATS - The Kansas Jayhawks, last year’s NCAA Champions, have suddenly become a huge force in this year’s tournament. Kansas has won 9 out of 10 games are easily one of the top teams to bet
7. Connecticut Huskies 10-11 ATS - Sure, there are a lot of teams out there with better against the spread records, but the Huskies did bounce back from their loss to Pitt by beating South Florida 64 to 50. They didn’t cover but get a chance against Marquette. That’s a game that will go a long way in determining their chances in late March.
8. Michigan State Spartans 13-9-1 ATS - The Spartans are always tough in the tourney.
9. Oklahoma Sooners 12-9-1 ATS - Their huge Monday night game on 2/23/2009 against the Kansas Jayhawks could determine exactly where they end up, seeding wise, in the NCAA Tournament. This is a must win for the Sooners!
10. Arizona Wildcats 16-10 ATS - The Wildcats have been fantastic against the spread lately, going 8 and 2 ATS in their last 10 games.
