College Football Betting Strategies That Work
By: Richard Bleuze
When handicapping college football, anything can happen and does! However, I suggest the following when you handicapping a college football game:
1. The first piece of advice is to spend your time on one or two conferences only. Nobody can handicap all the college football games. There are just too many conferences!
2. Try to focus on small college football games. These games are not paid attention to by most oddsmakers since most college football bettors are looking at the major teams. Thus, if you dig enough, you can actually find our more information than the sports books do about the current week's matchup and put the odds in your favor.
3. As a rule, avoid big nationally televised games since most oddsmakers spend more time on these games and the spreads are tighter. The sports books make money on these games because they know that the public will be watching the televised game. If you feel that you must place a bet, then I suggest that you consider the underdog.
4. Use stratistics to handicap a game after the 5th week. Especially look at rushing yards per game, rushing defense, ball turnovers, home/road advantage, etc. Most stats from prior years are useless cause the teams change year after year.
5. Check for injuries. Are the backup players any good?
6. Check the weather report for game day. Most coaches will have a different gameplan if there is inclement weather. You will find that most teams tend to pass less and run more. Thus, affecting the spread and giving the dog more value.
7. Study situations when handicapping a college football game. You must find where the team's head is at. You must handicap an entire season by working backwards. Circle games before bigger games and see how angry the team is and if they are focused.
8. Get a feel for the attitude of the college football team. Attitude is a major factor to consider, in my opinion. You can generally tell if a college football team has a winning attitude by reading any midweek articles from the newspapers, watching ESPN, etc.
9. Check different online handicapping forums and websites. You will be able to compare your information to what others are saying. In addition, you will also find that some of the people on those forums are professionals and usually provide valuable information.
10. Generally, bet against the public. However, this rule does not work for every game. So be careful!
