March Madness Historic Final Four

Historic Final Four features quartet of No. 1 seeds

For the first time in March Madness history all four No. 1 seeds have made it to the Final Four. This historic Final Four will tip off on Saturday in San Antonio, when North Carolina collides with Kansas and Memphis clashes with UCLA.

The Tar Heels put up a ton of points during their run through the Tournament behind forward Tyler Hansbrough, who is averaging 21 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.  North Carolina booked their ticket to the Final Four with an 83-73 win over Louisville as a 6-point favorite in the Elite Eight. Hansbrough was killer against the Cardinals with 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Wayne Ellington chipped in with 13 points.

The Jayhawks had what appears to be the easiest trip to the Final Four with the highest seed they faced being No. 8 Villanova.  Still, Kansas did not have an easy time versus No. 10 Davidson in the Elite Eight.  The Jayhawks narrowly defeated the Wildcats 59-57 as a 10-point favorite.  Sasha Kaun stepped up for Kansas in the tight victory with 13 points off the bench on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting performance.   Mario Chalmers also delivered 13 points for the Jayhawks’ deep offense.

Take North Carolina to beat Kansas.

The Memphis Tigers proved a Conference-USA team could hang with the big boys by rolling through the South Region into the Final Four.  Derrick Rose was a monster in the Tigers’ Elite Eight win over Texas.  Rose had 21 points, six rebounds and nine assists as the Tigers smoked the Longhorns 85-67 as a 3.5-point favorite.  Chris Douglas-Roberts unloaded 25 points on Texas, while Joey Dorsey ruled the glass again with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Bruins are making their third straight trip to the Final Four, with their sights set on their first national championship since 1995 as the only satisfying outcome this time.  UCLA could finally make it happen if Kevin Love continues to deliver.

The Bruins’ freshman is averaging a huge 21.8 points and 11 rebounds per game in the Tournament so far.  UCLA has also received stellar performances from Russell Westbrook and Darren Collison during their tourney run.  In the Elite Eight the Bruins knocked off Xavier 76-57 as a 6.5-point favorite behind 19 points and 10 rebounds from Love.  Collison also netted 19 points in the win, and Luc Mbah a Moute didn’t let a bum ankle stop him from posting 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Take UCLA to beat Memphis.  However, this should be a close game!
